Critical Response #8

Greensleeves by tedmrpotato

Element of Music
  • Tempo: Mild Slow
  • Instrumentation : Guitar
  • Genre: Folk Song
Summary
I found it weird about this song title as Greensleeves. I had no idea what Greensleeves mean but I mostly think this is a song about love. When I first heard it from a movie called "The Tale of Despereaux" played by the King who's mourning for the loss of his Queen. It has a sad feeling in the song, that bring tears in my eyes as I watched the King playing the song. I love how this song gives off this sad feeling so easily and the softness of the love it shows along with the support of the slow tempo. This song reminds me of the loss of my 2nd aunt to a disease. My 2nd aunt always wear hairband, like this song telling about the greensleeves of the composer's lover.

Critical Response #7

The Wonderful thing about Tiggers

Lyrics:
The wonderful thing about Tiggers
Is Tiggers are wonderful things
Their tops are made out of rubber
Their bottoms are made out of springs
They're bouncy, trouncy, flouncy, pouncy
Fun, fun, fun, fun, FUN!
But the most wonderful thing about Tiggers
Is I'm the only one

The wonderful thing about Tiggers
Is Tiggers are wonderful chaps
They're loaded with vim and with vigor
They love to leap in your laps
They're bouncy, trouncy, flouncy pouncy
Fun, fun, fun, fun, FUN
But the most wonderful thing about Tiggers
Is I'm the only one.

Tiggers are wonderful fellahs.
Tiggers are awfully sweet.
Everyone elses is jealous,
And thats why I repeat...

The wonderful thing about Tiggers
Are Tiggers are wonderful things
Their tops are made out of rubber
Their bottoms are made out of springs
They're bouncy, trouncy, flouncy, pouncy
Fun, fun, fun, fun, FUN!
But the most wonderful thing about Tiggers
Is I'm the only one.
Yes, I'm the only one

Element of Music:

  • Tempo: fast
  • Dynamics: Loud but gradually getting louder with "FUN."

Summary:

Tiggers is the only character I remember from Winnie the Pooh in my childhood. I remember I used to bounce on my bed and singing this song, and my parents would get mad at me. This song makes me really happy, because it has a cheerful and playful mood and tone when sang. It is also a fast song, that whenever I sang the lyrics, I sometime bit my tongue. Tiggers was always cheerful and a optimist, and was never upset. Although many people were annoyed by him, they still think of him as their friends. He was my role model in my childhood, so when I feel a bit down, I would have this song running in my head. One time when I accidentally got into a haunted house alone, I hummed this song to distract me from the silence and creepy thing, it worked half way. Overall, this song helped me cheer up and giving a feeling to play.

Critical Response #6

Poker Face by Lady Gaga
Country Version:

This is a Poker Face song in country version, which I find it very cool. I love how the beats give off a country style and how they change a pop song into country. I also love the vocal singer sometimes sing like a conversation or change her singing style in some part. It somehow made me imagine a cowboy town and they're playing poker. In this version, there are vocal singers and contain guitar, cello, and drum.

Orchestral Version:

This Poker Face song is in orchestra version. When I listen closely, it sort of gives out a Christmas feeling with all the bells. I love how they begin with a quiet sound then get louder all of sudden and how they made dynamics very well. I also love how the instruments are like voices from high to low. The beat are also faster it sounded very cheerful.  In this version, there are no vocal singer, but contains violin, flute, drum, bell, horn, saxophone, cello, and many different other.

Compare and Contrast:
Between this two song, the beats are the same, 4/4, but they have different form. The country version have vocals singer while the orchestra do not have any. However, orchestra have more instruments than the country. The dynamics are also different, the orchestra have more dynamics than the country. There are only a few similarities between them and that is the tone are cheerful and has fast tempo in both versions.

Critical Response #4 Part 2

愛很大(Ai Hen Da- Love is Big) by Waterman, released in 2010

Lyrics:

(hopefully you can find the translated lyrics! :DD)

Element of Music:

  • Instrumentation: Piano, guitar and drum
  • Dynamics: In most part, the song are very soft, but in chorus "Ai hen da" is the loudest with all different kinds of people singing together.

Summary:
This song is in 4/4 meter, and it is about all different kinds of love there is in the world. When I first heard this song was when I was in a summer camp back in Taiwan. The teacher made us sing this song, and I am not sure if it was put into the song. Later on, I heard it was an event that the "Waterman" recorded all kinds of people singing and put them together, which include the students from classes and random people on the street. This song moved me because I love how to chorus has so many people singing together strongly and it somehow showed me that love is really big.
